A leading multidisciplinary property and construction consultancy is seeking a qualified Building Regulations Principal Designer to join its expanding Compliance team in Birmingham. This newly created role reflects recent changes in the construction industry following the Building Safety Act, and offers the opportunity to work on a wide range of high-profile projects across the UK.

Key Responsibilities

Provide expert advice on the Building Safety Act and Building Regulations

Review plans and designs to ensure compliance for Building Regulation approval

Attend client and design team meetings to offer technical guidance

Liaise with clients, contractors, developers, and stakeholders

Ensure project designs meet current legislation and regulatory standards
-
Maintain high technical and commercial standards across all deliverables

Identify and escalate new business opportunities to senior management

Contribute to bid submissions and fee proposals under supervision

Build and grow a network of industry contacts

Collaborate with internal teams and external partners across multidisciplinary projects
Skills & Experience Required

Degree in a construction-related discipline, ideally with a design focus, or equivalent practical experience

Strong understanding of the design and construction process

Proven experience inspecting buildings and assessing compliance

In-depth knowledge of Building Regulations, codes, and associated legislation
-
Excellent client-facing and communication skills (written and verbal)

Membership of RICS, CIAT, CABE, or CIOB

Up-to-date record of Continuing Professional Development (CPD)

Proficiency in SharePoint and other project management tools

Ability to produce technical documentation such as End of Design Stage Reports and Building Regulations Trackers
