Business Development Manager

Conrad Consulting are working with an established and growing construction contractor who are seeking an ambitious and commercially focused Business Development Manager to drive new business growth across its construction and refurbishment divisions. 

This is an excellent opportunity for a motivated sales professional with experience in the construction sector to play a key role in expanding market presence, developing strategic relationships, and securing profitable projects across both public and private sectors.

The successful candidate will work closely with senior leadership to identify opportunities, build a strong pipeline of work, and strengthen relationships with clients, consultants, and key stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities of the the Business Development Manager:

  • Identify, develop, and secure new business opportunities within the construction sector.

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, developers, local authorities, housing associations, consultants, and supply chain partners.

  • Research and target new markets, frameworks, and procurement opportunities.

  • Develop and implement business development strategies to achieve growth targets.

  • Attend networking events, industry exhibitions, and client meetings to promote the business.

  • Manage the sales pipeline, ensuring opportunities are accurately tracked and progressed.

  • Collaborate with estimating, pre-construction, and operational teams to support tender submissions and client presentations.

  • Prepare compelling proposals, presentations, and bid support documentation.

  • Monitor market trends, competitor activity, and industry developments.

  • Provide regular reports and forecasts to senior management.

Requirements of the Business Development Manager:

  • Proven experience in a Business Development, Sales, or Client Relationship role within the construction industry.

  • Strong understanding of construction procurement routes and project lifecycles.

  • Experience developing relationships with key decision-makers and generating new business opportunities.

  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and presentation skills.

  • Ability to work independently while contributing to wider business objectives.

  • Commercially aware with a results-driven approach.

  • Strong organisational and pipeline management skills.

  • Full UK driving licence.

Desirable Experience:

  • Existing network within construction, refurbishment, fit-out, housing, commercial, education, healthcare, or public sector markets.

  • Experience working with framework agreements and public sector procurement.

  • Knowledge of CRM systems and business development reporting.
