Head of CAD - Architecture

Outstanding opportunity for an Experienced Architectural Technologist to join my clients as the Head of CAD (Computer Aided Design) They are an established multidisciplinary consultancy encompassing architecture, surveying & project management across a diverse range of sectors including residential, healthcare, educational, industrial & commercial. This senior-level position will be based across both their Sidcup and London Blackfriars offices.

Due to continued growth and strategic development within the practice, the company is seeking an experienced and forward‑thinking Architectural Technologist to lead and develop their CAD function on a full‑time permanent basis. This is a pivotal role within the organisation, responsible for overseeing CAD standards, driving technical excellence, and supporting project delivery across multiple teams.

You will play a key role in shaping the practice’s digital design output, ensuring consistency, quality, and innovation across all technical drawing production. Working closely with architectural and surveying teams, you will support projects from early feasibility through to detailed design, statutory approvals, and construction documentation.

The ideal candidate will demonstrate the following skills and attributes:

  • Strong leadership qualities with the ability to mentor, guide and develop their CAD department
  • Excellent communication skills and the confidence to collaborate across multidisciplinary teams.
  • A proactive, organised and detail‑driven approach.
  • Ability to implement, maintain and improve CAD standards, workflows and best practice.
  • Commercial awareness and the ability to manage competing priorities across multiple projects.

Required qualifications and experience:

  • Architecture Degree (BA Hons)
  • Chartership with the Chartered Institute of Architectural Technologists (CIAT)
  • Extensive experience working within an architectural or multidisciplinary consultancy environment.
  • Advanced proficiency in AutoCAD and strong understanding of wider CAD/BIM workflows and softwares.
  • Thorough knowledge of construction processes, design principles and technical detailing.
  • Proven experience producing and overseeing high‑quality 2D CAD outputs.
