Senior Architect

An established 80-person, multi-disciplinary Architectural and Building Surveying consultancy in Huddersfield (HD9) is seeking an ambitious Senior Architect to join their established Architectural Team.

You will work alongside a talented group of Architects, Technologists and Technicians in immaculate offices set within beautiful rural surroundings and landscaped gardens.

Our client provides a comprehensive range of professional services to the housing sector – encompassing both new build and refurbishment schemes. They are looking for an Architect who can play a senior role within the Architectural division while collaborating closely with the wider business, which includes Chartered Surveyors and a range of other construction professionals. The practice has a strong track record of developing staff; internal promotion is central to their culture, with several long-serving team members now in Director positions.

Key Responsibilities of the Senior Architect

  • Leading the design process across RIBA Work Stages 1–6 for residential new build and refurbishment projects
  • Preparing concept design proposals, feasibility studies, and detailed architectural drawings
  • Overseeing the production of technical design information and coordinating multi-disciplinary input
  • Developing and reviewing 3D Revit models across all project stages
  • Managing multiple projects simultaneously, ensuring design quality, compliance and delivery to programme
  • Checking, mentoring and guiding the work of junior team members
  • Preparing planning applications and associated documentation (design & access statements, planning reports, etc.)
  • Liaising with clients, consultants and stakeholders throughout the project lifecycle
  • Undertaking site visits, inspections and providing professional architectural and technical direction during construction

Experience & Skills Required

  • Fully qualified Architect (ARB registered) with 5–10 years post-qualification experience
  • Strong design skills supported by excellent technical knowledge
  • Proven experience leading residential projects (new build or refurbishment)
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD is essential; Revit/BIM experience is highly desirable
  • Strong understanding of planning policy, building regulations and construction detailing
  • Experience preparing design & access statements, planning statements and measured surveys
  • Demonstrable leadership ability and confidence as a senior figure within a design office
  • Excellent organisational, project management and communication skills
  • Ability to manage competing priorities and work effectively within deadlines
  • Full, clean UK driving licence
