Senior Architectural Technologist

An excellent opportunity has arisen for an ambitious Architectural Technologist or established Senior Architectural Technologist to join a well-established and growing regional architectural practice at their new studio in Sheffield.

This opportunity is equally suited to an experienced Architectural Technologist looking to take the next step in their career, or an existing Senior Technologist seeking greater project responsibility, autonomy and long-term progression.

Our client has built an outstanding reputation for delivering technically complex projects across the Residential, Healthcare and Care sectors throughout the UK. Their impressive portfolio includes luxury care homes, retirement living, supported living, residential developments, Build to Rent schemes, student accommodation and mixed-use developments, with project values ranging from £2 million to over £50 million.

With a strong pipeline of secured work and continued investment in their technical team, the practice is looking to appoint a technically accomplished individual who can play an important role in the coordination and delivery of projects, with opportunities to develop into a wider technical leadership position.

The Opportunity

This is an exciting opportunity for an Architectural Technologist who enjoys the technical challenges of delivering complex buildings and is keen to take greater ownership of projects.

Working alongside experienced Architects, Senior Technologists and external Consultants, you will play a key role in developing and coordinating technical information across RIBA Stages 3–5, ensuring projects are delivered to the highest technical standards.

For those already operating at Senior level, there is the opportunity to take responsibility for technical packages, lead coordination activities and support the development of less experienced colleagues.

Equally, for an ambitious Technologist ready to progress, the practice offers the mentoring, support and exposure needed to develop into a confident, capable Senior professional.

The business prides itself on its collaborative culture, commitment to professional development and willingness to give talented individuals the responsibility and trust to progress their careers.

Key Responsibilities

  • Take responsibility for producing and coordinating detailed technical drawings and construction packages using Revit.
  • Play a leading role in the technical development and delivery of projects across RIBA Stages 3, 4 and 5.
  • Develop robust, practical and compliant technical solutions for complex building projects.
  • Coordinate architectural information with structural, civil, MEP and specialist consultants.
  • Prepare and review Planning, Building Regulations and construction documentation.
  • Produce and oversee construction details, schedules and specifications.
  • Ensure technical information complies with current UK Building Regulations, British Standards and relevant industry guidance.
  • Contribute towards Gateway submissions for Higher Risk Buildings where applicable.
  • Attend and contribute to design coordination meetings, consultant workshops and project reviews.
  • Liaise directly with clients, contractors and external consultants as appropriate.
  • Review subcontractor and supplier information to ensure technical compliance and coordination.
  • Support the technical delivery of projects through construction, including site inspections and resolving technical queries.
  • Maintain and promote high standards of BIM coordination and project documentation.
  • Support and mentor junior members of the technical team where appropriate.
  • Contribute towards the continual improvement of technical standards, workflows and detail libraries.

Projects

You will have the opportunity to work on a varied and technically rewarding portfolio including:

  • Luxury Care Homes and Specialist Healthcare Facilities
  • Retirement Living and Supported Living Developments
  • Residential Developments and Apartment Buildings
  • Build to Rent Schemes
  • Student Accommodation
  • Mixed-Use Developments
  • Higher Risk Buildings

With project values ranging from £2 million to over £50 million, there is genuine scope to gain exposure to increasingly complex and substantial commissions.

About You

We are keen to hear from Architectural Technologists at different stages of their career, particularly those who are ready to take on greater responsibility or are already operating successfully at Senior level.

Ideally, you will demonstrate:

  • A degree, HND or equivalent qualification in Architectural Technology or a related discipline.
  • A strong background working within UK architectural practice, ideally with approximately 5 years' experience or more, although capability and technical competence are more important than years served.
  • Excellent Revit proficiency and a sound understanding of BIM workflows.
  • Strong technical detailing skills and experience producing comprehensive construction packages.
  • Thorough knowledge of UK Building Regulations, construction methods and building technology.
  • Experience coordinating technical information with multidisciplinary design teams.
  • The confidence to take ownership of technical packages and contribute towards project delivery.
  • Strong organisational, communication and problem-solving skills.
  • The ability to manage competing priorities and work effectively across multiple projects.
  • A proactive attitude and genuine enthusiasm for developing your technical expertise and career.

For those already operating at Senior level, previous experience leading technical packages, coordinating consultants or mentoring junior colleagues would be particularly advantageous.

However, you don't necessarily need to hold a Senior job title already. If you have developed strong technical capabilities and feel ready for greater responsibility, we would be equally interested in hearing from you.

Desirable Experience

Previous exposure to Healthcare, Care Homes, Residential, Retirement Living, Student Accommodation or Higher Risk Buildings would be advantageous, although applicants from other technically demanding sectors are encouraged to apply.

Additional experience with NBS Specification, Autodesk Construction Cloud, Navisworks, BIM Level 2, CDM Regulations or the Building Safety Act would also be beneficial.

CIAT membership or progress towards Chartership would be welcomed and supported.
